Metropolitan Moving is one of the worst companies I've ever dealt with.

3.14.2006

I am angry today. Like, I can't remember the last time I was this upset sort of angry. Why? Because companies can FUCK people in the ASS over and OVER and you can't do a damn thing about it.

Here is a brief synopsis of the SHIT I have been going through with METROPOLITAN MOVING (hello Googlers!) (don't EVER use them; tell your friends!) since getting back here. (See how angry I am? Look at all the caps! Rrr!)

8-28-05: MM shows up and puts all my stuff on a truck and takes it away. I leave Atlanta shortly afterward.
8-30-05: I show up in AZ.
9-23-05: My stuff shows up in AZ, a full week after it was promised. The glass top to my coffee table arrives literally powdered in its box.
9-23-05 through 10-2-05: Attempt to get ahold of MM to file claim.
10-3-05: File complaint with the BBB. (Exactly Jack and Shit come of this.)
10-4-05 through 11-10-05: Attempt to reach MM several more times. Finally get claim form faxed to me.
11-14-05: Claim officially filed. MM says it will take up to 120 days to process, which is ridiculous, but okay.
2-13-06: Call to check on claim. "We will research this and call you back."
2-20-06: "That person is out of the office until next week. Please call back."
3-1-06: "She's out of the office until next week."
3-7-06: "She's out of the office until next week."
"Is anyone else handling this in her absence?"
"You could talk to Joe but he's gone until next week too."
3-14-06: FINALLY get ahold of the person I'm supposed to speak to. She researches my claim while I'm on the phone, and ...

"We owe you $15.00."

FIFTEEN FUCKING DOLLARS BECAUSE WE DIDN'T PURCHASE ADDITIONAL COVERAGE. And they value the items at $0.60/lb. They packed my table and broke it en route, they estimate my table weighed 25 lbs, and they want to send me a check for fifteen motherfucking dollars.

Anyone in Atlanta feel like introducing some folks to sharp objects, maybe in an alley somewhere? Feel free to e-mail me. :)

*****

In other news, this is freakin' hilarious. Seriously. Make sure you get all the way to the end. :) (It's an "English" translation of a Chinese menu, in case you're weighing whether or not to bother with it, and I had to cover my mouth and squeak into my hand in order to keep from scaring the important people in the office.) http://www.rahoi.com/2006/03/may-i-take-your-order.php

Unfortunately, what you experienced, at least in the way of compensation, is standard industry fare. When my parents moved to Alaska, some of their stuff was damaged, although not to the extent you describe. At first the moving company wasn't going to pay them anything because they "didn't purchase coverage," until my parents reminded them of a clause in the contract that they were covered for 60 cents/pound. Then, they estimated the weight way low (this was a solid hard-wood desk). The moving racket is one of the biggest out there. Sadly enough, my parents experience is one of the happier ones.

I would love to meet these people in a dark ally...unfortunately I used them to move also...google sucks! They are refusing to ship my stuff or take my credit card payment. I fear that i will not get any of my belongings. I am now trying to go through the federal offices to get this handled. Any suggestions???? Next time you are in Atlanta we can hunt them down together!!!!

On May 30, 2006 I did an internet search for Movers in the Atlanta Area to move my items to Detroit MI. I am recently married to a USMC SSgt last month before he was deployed back to Iraq last month 3rd tour. And I am relocating to be near his stationed base. I was contacted by relocation specialist Joe Safieh of Metropolitan Moving Lawrenceville Ga and advised that the move would be $1372.00 I paid the 25% deposit of which I though was $350.00, but they charged $518 to my credit card. 2 men showed up 4 hours late on June 12, 2006 to load my items into a truck (Enterprise Rent a Truck) and after that I was advised it was going to be an additional $600.00 for the 45 added file boxes. Bring the total up to $1918 which I paid with my credit cards. I asked the driver is that all I will have to pay. He stated no you pay 75% of the move now and the balance of 25% COD CASH on delivery leaving $479.50 which now brings the total move up to $2397.50 AT THAT POINT I REQUESTED THE MOVE BE CANCELLED, BUT THEY HAD MY STUFF AND DROVE OFF. I called the police but they advised it was a civil matter. I called Joe Safieh and he informed my that my total move now was $4200.00. He is a scam artist. I hired an attorney and was told I could pick up my things for an additional $ 1407.60 Making a total local move from my 2 bedroom apartment 18 miles to their storage unit which is “O-Storage” 1800 Sullivan Drive in Duluth The rented a 10x15 storage unit.. At this point on June 21, 2006 they already have $1918.99 and are demanding another $1407.40 bring a total LOCAL MOVE up to $ 3325. Break down 15hrs x$145.00($1740) a truck reroute $ 495.00(BS charge they only used one 24’ truck) and another $185.00 in fueline and $325.00 in packing- I packed everything. Metropolitan Moving broke my dinning room table in 3 pieces and coffee table in 2 places. They are incomptent and scam artists. They were featured on WSB Clark Howard last year as scam artists. I called Clark Howard and he is doing another story on Metropolitan Moving. They were pulling this scam in Miami, Fl. For 4 years prior.
I asked for a the free re-way was told I would have to pay a truck reroute charge of $ 495.00 and another $360.00 for warehouse handling charge
I moved from a house in Buford to an apartment in Midtown last summer and the total cost including packing material was $775.00 Using All American Movers they did not break a thing and reassembled them and did it in 7 hrs. I wish I used them,
This is a hard lesson learned
furthermore I was supposed to start a new job on June 19, 2006 (but lost the job because I had to drive back to Atlanta to get my household goods) Additionally I had to rent a truck hire a driver an additional further charge of $ 1100.00 (I was afraid metropolitan moving would damage my things or I would never see them. Several complaints 38 by the BBB they BBB have an unacceptable report on them and they are not a member!

Dear Sir, I utilized Metropolitian Moving to move from North Carolina to Arizona 1 1/2 years ago and had a terrible experience. They laoded my antique furniture in the rain even though I asked them to stop (they called their supervisor who said to continue) and strapped my mattresses to the back of the truck and drove through a Hurricane - ruined mattresses. I lost expensive electronic equipment that got "lost" in the move and they broke many valuable/replaceable antiques. My estimate of damages approached $30,000 and of course i had to pay over $1,000 to get the estimates. No recovery as of this date. Add me to the class action suit if you bring it. Lewis

NEVER, EVER use Metropolitan moving company located in Georgia! They are all idiots who give people the run around. My boyfiend moved from NC to Tx in July 06 and it took them 3 weeks to get to TX and his cushions to his leather couch are missing, the windshield on his motorcycle is cracked, and so on and so on. Does metropolitan moving even care?!?! NO!!! They could care less, we should have known it was trouble when they showed up in a rented Enterprise truck, not even their own company truck, ridiculous!!

Quite possibly the worst experience that I've had with a moving company.

Not only did they take forever, but I figured that they were doing it to make some extra money. But now they are doing their best to rip me off, I'll let you know. If you'd like to follow, check my blog.

On July 15, 2006, we also the unfortunate experience of having a company move our furniture. Nearly every single item the movers moved was damaged beyond repair. The company assigned two workers whom were unqualified to move our furniture. The movers arrived over four hours after the scheduled time without giving us any notice. Furthermore they came unprepared because they had misplaced the key that opened the rear door to the moving van. This slowed them down because they were literally shoving our furniture through a side door. One of the worker was very negligent and spent most of the time in the van, rearranging items in the passenger/driver area while the other worked. Furthermore, when spoken to the rep. of the company (once the furniture was moved), the company wanted full payment for the sloppy, poor, damaging, work. Upon speaking with the rep. DUN, we expressed our complaint and wanted to decline the payment for this service. The rep then initiated to threaten us by calling the police, having us arrested, and making it a legal issue for non-payment. Therefore, we decided to make the payment and file a complaint with the claims department. As of today 8-4-06, we have not yet received any cooperation, in resolving this matter. Please refer to the Better Business Bureau for additional information regarding this complaint. Case #94079986 to view future updates.

I moved from Columbia, SC to the Washington, DC area back in July. This company is terrible. They arrived 3 hours late in a rented truck. They never mentioned having to pay the final 25% in cash (I would have paid the entire thing up front). They arrived at 9PM to my destination (was supposed to be there by 4PM ) and unloaded the items in my garage and left. While backing up the truck they ripped off my neighbors gutter and my gutter off of the garages. I filed a claim back in July and as of November 10th have heard nothing. Pathetic. I am traveling to Atlanta in 2 weeks to hunt them down myself. Please email me any information anyone may have concerning these deadbeats or a class action suit:

Now I feel bad because this is #2 on Google, and the #1 is a Met Movers that apparently have nothing to do with the company that has scammed me and so many others. I'm just sorry they've managed to hurt so many other people too. Poor Soldier's Wife! I'm so sorry we've all gone through this crap. Good luck in the future. It's going to be a long time before I trust someone else with my stuff again.
