IT BROKE!

11.06.2007

I was finally practicing my violin for real again! Three days in a row! I can't remember the last time I played it three days in a row.

And today, it fucking broke.

(Here is a violin diagram for those of you who might need help with the next bit.)

I noticed the bridge was out of alignment, so I loosened all the strings and tweaked the bridge so it sat better. I have done this countless times. Except this time, when I picked it back up to retune it, it was making a most unvioliny rattling noise. Turns out the sound post came loose and is now rolling around inside the body of my violin! I have no idea why this happened; I've never seen it before. And now when I play the thing it sounds like it's on a bad cell phone connection. Who knows what it will cost to fix this? They have to take the whole thing apart. This is not easy.

Goddammit! And I was doing so well. :'(

Don't you hate "tests" like this?

Mine came in the form of Jeeps not going back together (or, indeed, coming apart) as they should all weekend. Guess what? I have more of the same this weekend (as well as WORK-work!).

Take heart, darlin... all is as it should be.

At least that's what I keep telling myself, so it MUST be true, damnit!!!
